Knesset decides to nationalize Israel
On July 19, the Israeli parliament passed a constitutional law that defines Israel as an exclusively Jewish nation state, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported. The draft law was backed by the majority of parliamentarians, it passed by a vote of 62-55 in the 120-member parliament. From now on, Israel is the homeland of Jewish people, and only Jews have the right of self-determination in the country.
From that moment, Hebrew acquires the status of an official language, the bill also downgrades Arabic from an official language to having "special status" in the territory of Israel. The European Union was skeptical about the advisability of proclaiming Israel as an exclusively Jewish nation state, and several political figures in the Arab World defined it as a violation of the rights of national minorities living in Israel.
The Israeli Declaration of Independence, formally the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel, was proclaimed in 1948. Having built a strong and independent state, having stood in numerous Arab-Israeli wars, having the support of the United States, Israel still fears for its own existence, reiterating that the threat of Israel disappearing from the political map is quite real.
What is behind the decision to nationalize Israel? The country was created on the basis of ethnic and religion, according to which being a Jew was not enough to have Israeli citizenship. That is why the Law of Return was adopted, according to which Jews who are members of another religion are not eligible for Aliyah under the law. Without attaching ethnic and religious character to the future republic, Israel's founding fathers could cast doubt on the national character of Israel, thus appearing in the Middle East as the colonialists of Arab Palestine. Therefore, subsequent resettlement of ethnic Jews of different faiths could serve as a confirmation of the people's coming to Palestine, which was unacceptable.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement about the defining moment in the history of Zionism was not accidental, since the merit of Zionism in the matter of confirming the right of Jews to the Land of Israel is enormous. It was the recognition of the Torah that confirmed that Jews lived on this land many centuries ago and only in the 20th century. the revival of the national home of one of the most ancient peoples has begun.
The non-recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, as a rule, is followed by arguments in favor of illegality of Israelis's rights to the Land of Israel, the leadership of the republic believes. Therefore, having legitimated the nationalization of the country, Tel Aviv seeks to protect itself from any accusations of the occupation of Palestine, considering the fact that the reputation of "occupiers" legitimizes any means of war against Israel, including terrorist actions. Finally, according to Tel-Aviv, the adoption of the law on the national state will be a blow to the falsification of the history of Israel and remove the issue of the state status of Jerusalem, which will become the unified capital of the Jewish state.
Despite the fact that Israel cites France or Italy as an example, where the status of a national-democratic state of French and Italians is fixed in the existing constitutions, it is obvious that the ideology of the Zionist state takes the upper hand in the issue of recognizing Israel as a national state of Jews. The country recognizes that the settlement of Israel by emigrants of different nationalities gave impetus to the development of the economy, the army, science and, of course, health care. Israel has started to acquire the features of a modern developed state of the Western type. But, despite the fact that Israel respects the West, the vector of the national state development is a priority, since the threat of losing statehood remains high.
