September 9th marks Leo Tolstoy's 190 birthday
September 9th marks Leo Tolstoy's 190 birthday. Festive events will be held across the country, including in the Tolstoy State Museum in Moscow and Yasnaya Polyana.
Director of the Yasnaya Polyana museum estate, Yekaterina Tolstaya, said that this summer there were two large en plein airs for students of the St. Petersburg State Art and Industrial Academy named after Shtiglitz, the Yelets State University and the Tula State University. Thanks to these en plein air, the Yasnaya Polyana now has several beautiful landscape pictures. In mid-August the Yasnaya Polyana hosted international en plein air for deaf-mute artists from Croatia, Italy, Macedonia, Belarus. International congress of translators is underway, scientific conference "Tolstoy and World Literature" has just ended.
As for festive events dedicated to Tolstoy's birthday, on September 6th the museum estate will hoast an Tolstoy's exhibition, which will feature paintings of artists who lived in the times of Leo Tolstoy, as well as modern artists. Works of Nesterov, Shcherbakov, Oleg Vladimirovich Tolstoyw will be presented.
On September 8th, exhibition dedicated to Tolstoy's life principles, his fashion, social etiquette will open. A lot of previously unseen items will be presented.
On September 8th, People's Artist of Russia, Oleg Pogudin, and his musicians will perform at the Yasnaya Polyana's House of Culture. Tolstoy's favorite romances will be performed on this day.
Yasnay Polyana is open for everyone. Access to territory of the estate and the memorial buildings is free.
