Armenian population continues to decline
According to the Armenian National Statistical Service, based on the 2011 census, 2,979,9 thousand people live in the country as of July 1st 2017.
Overall, Armenia’s population dropped by 15,200 people over the last 12 months, and by 6.2 thousand people - in the past half a year, News.am reported.
During the first six months of 2017, the birth rate in the republic declined by 6.6%, reaching 17,169 thousand. The mortality rate for the reporting period increased by 2.1%, reaching 14,709 thousand.
Armenia's population has fallen below 3 million people for the first time in 40 years on January 1, 2016.
