Azerbaijani army destroys Armenia’s armored vehicles with SPIKE missile
The Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed Armenia’s armored vehicles, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense said.
"The Azerbaijani armed forces timely detected and destroyed Armenia’s combat vehicles during a maneuver," Trend cited the ministry as saying.
The ministry commented on Armenian media reports that the Azerbaijani armed forces have used SPIKE anti-tank guided missile against the Armenian army in the direction of Azerbaijan’s Khojavend district.
The Ministry of Defense said that Azerbaijani army has the right to use any modern weapons at its disposal and is fully capable of intercepting the enemy’s activities.
SPIKE is the fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile and anti-personnel missile with a tandem-charge HEAT warhead. Its minimum range is 50 m and it has an original maximum range of 1000 m. It is equipped with a stiff-necked uncooled electro-optical infrared seeker and advanced tracker, as opposed to the gimballed seeker in the Spike MR/LR/ER versions.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry earlier said that the Armenian army attempted to infiltrate through the Azerbaijani positions along the line of contact on the night from February 24 to February 25. The Armenian side attempted to seize favorable positions on the Khojavand-Fuzuli part of the frontline, the ministry said, adding that heavy battles took place between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.
