"Azerbaijanis must return to historical lands"
The words of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about the need of Azerbaijanis to return to their historical lands, including the territories of modern Armenia - the Erevan Khanate, Zangezur and Geycha - hit like a bolt from the blue but only for those who do not remember neither the history of the past centuries, nor the events of the last five years. Indeed, Yerevan, Zangezur, and Geycha were the Azerbaijani lands for a long time, but the president's call means not only the need to preserve the historical memory of Azerbaijanis but recalls the most serious problem of modern Azerbaijan - Armenia’s aggression that led to the occupation of 20% of the Azerbaijani territories.
At the same time, if we are taking about the Nagorno Karabakh issue, it is not only a desire to give a verbal impulse to the newly frozen negotiations or a signal to the mediators about the need to put pressure on Armenia, but a necessity to repulse the enemy, who keeps the captured territories by force for almost 30 years, prepares new attacks on Azerbaijan and bears plans to expand the occupation to the other Azerbaijani lands - the local Armenian hawks regularly talk about these plans in Yerevan (and the world community, in turn, turns a deaf ear to the calls like ‘to Baku’). The war is never over, the territories are defended all the time, the militaries are ready to new provocations, which can turn into a full-scale offensive any time - all this escapes from outside observers commenting on these days the words of Ilham Aliyev.
But the war is going on, the enemy stands on the Azerbaijani land and prepares an offensive, while the ‘diplomats’ are dragging out the negotiation process due to the low activity of the mediators. It was clear four years ago before Armenia launched the first large-scale provocation in August 2014, and Shahbaz Guliyev became a witness of preparations for an attack on Azerbaijan (rather than a defense of the occupied lands, as Yerevan calls it hypocritically). The forced migrant from the occupied Kelbajar region, along with his two compatriots, returned to his native land in the summer of 2014, where he was captured and remains in custody today. During the journey through the front line, he captured the movement of the Armenian troops - this video was seized, but not hidden by the invaders, and shown on TV.
Official Baku has always opposed the establishment of a second Armenian state in the borders of the present territories of Azerbaijan, this week it was recalled only that the first Armenian state exists today on the historical Azerbaijani lands. Given the fact of the constant escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by the invaders, their preparations for new attacks, which we witnessed in August 2014, and in January 2015, and in April 2016, and in July 2017, the words of Ilham Aliyev sounded as a warning to Yerevan about the inadmissibility of a further policy of the military aggression against Azerbaijan.
If this policy continues, the Azerbaijani army is ready to go on the offensive and liberate its lands, which the enemy has been occupying for so long. And if Yerevan’s hawks are ready to go ‘to Baku’, the statement about the task of returning to the historical lands of the Erevan Khanate, Zangezur and Geycha sound quite natural, because the key duty of the commander-in-chief, whoever he is, is to ensure the security of his state.
