CSKA appoints Viktor Goncharenko as coach

CSKA Moscow has appointed Viktor Goncharenko as coach following the departure of Leonid Slutsky.

Goncharenko, once Slutsky's assistant at CSKA, joins the club after a strong start to the season with FC Ufa, which had been expected only to battle against relegation but instead is eighth in the Russian league.

He previously won two Belarusian titles as a player and five as a coach with BATE Borisov, as well as making the team an unlikely Champions League regular.

Slutsky quit as CSKA coach last week after seven years and three Russian titles, the Daily Mail reports.
