Erdogan: US lies to Turkey on Syria
Former US President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump have lied to Turkey on the issue of Syrian Kurdish fighters in Syria’s Manbij region, the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
"Obama lied to Turkey on the issue of Syrian Kurdish fighters in Syria’s Manbij region and Trump follows the same path," Erdogan stressed.
"Trump told us ‘they cannot stay there. They will go to the east of the Euphrates.’ He accepted that Arabs are the real owners of Manbij. But what he said has not come true. Now there is mobilization in Manbij. Manbij will find its real owners,” Hurriyet Daily cited Turkey's President as saying.
He noted that there are many refugees in Turkey who had to "flee from Manbij but want to return to their homelands."
Relations between Ankara and Washington have been experiencing a serious crisis because of the military support provided by Washington to the Syrian Kurds' People's Protection Units (YPG), which is considered by Turkey to be affiliated with the Kurdistan's Workers' Party (PKK), regarded by Ankara as a terrorist organization.
