FSB and mobile operators oppose e-SIM use
Russia’s top three operators – MTS, MegaFon, and VimpelCom – and the Federal Security Service opposed use of the embedded SIM card technology, or e-SIM, in the country, three sources said.
The novelty is used in the latest models of Apple and Samsung devices for connection without a physical SIM card.
Russia's Deputy Digital Development Minister Oleg Ivanov said that Russia can only start using the embedded SIM card technology, or e-SIM, after security issues have been solved.
"We don’t think the matter should be pushed forward. In the first place we should tackle all the issues of security,"the Prime news agency cited Ivanov as saying.
