Georgia hit by storm: damages, avalanches and landslides
The storm, which has already caused a significant damage to the infrastructure in almost all regions of Georgia, continues to rage, according to the statement of the country's Emergency Management Service posted on the Facebook page.
In Tbilisi alone 54 houses, 68 trees, seven lighting poles, six cars, six billboards and five central gas pipes were damaged by the storm, Sputnik Georgia reports.
The roofs of houses were damaged in Shida Kartli and Adjara. A part of road carriageways of the highway collapsed as a result of a landslide in the village of Sadjavaho of the Imereti region. In the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, an avalanche blocked the road in the village of Lachamula of the Mestia district, and the river in the city of Martvili flowed over its banks. There is also flooding in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, where the Kura River flowed over its banks and damaged one of the houses.
The Service 112 received a total of 254 calls, including 166 from Tbilisi.
The Tbilisi International Airport canceled two flights because of the storm, two more flights were rerouted to other airports.
The Tbilisi-Aktau and Istanbul-Tbilisi flights were canceled, and the plane flying to Tbilisi from Almaty was rerouted to Aktau. The plane flying to Tbilisi from Urumqi was rerouted to Ashgabat.
The weather forecast also announced strong winds in the capital of Georgia today - 25-30 meters per second.
