Georgia renews banknotes worth 20, 50 and 100 GEL
Renewed banknotes worth 20, 50 and 100 GEL will appear in Georgia today. The old banknotes will also continue to be used, the Georgian National Bank said.
This is the first significant change in the design of banknotes for more than 20 years. The new banknotes were designed by Bacha Malazonia. He has vast experience designing currency – he and his father Nodar Malazonia first designed Georgia’s national currency in 1995, TASS reports.
The new banknotes will depict the same themes but will have a different look with additional elements. The renewed banknotes will be better protected from fraudulent copying, and contain easily perceivable and modern signs that could even be recognized by people with visual impairments.
The 5 and 10 GEL banknotes will be renewed at a later stage.
