Iran calls for release of PressTV journalist arrested in U.S
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qasemi called for the immediate release of a journalist Marziyeh Hashemi, arrested in the United States while working for Iran’s Press TV.
"We condemn the illegal arrest of Marziyeh Hashemi, the reporter and presenter of Press TV, and the inhumane treatment of her in jail in Washington," IRNA cited Qasemi as saying.
The spokesman specified that the journalist "has been unable to contact anyone for two days," while the attitude toward her after the detention insults her as a Muslim.
Hashemi was arrested at St Louis Lambert International Airport on Sunday. She came to the U.S. to visit her family members, including her brother, who is suffering from cancer. No charges have been so far brought against her. She was allowed to call her daughter two days after her arrest, the broadcaster said.
