Iran goalkeeper banned for wearing yellow trousers
Iran's international goalkeeper Sosha Makani has been suspended for six months for the wearing of 'SpongeBob trousers'.
Makani, who played for Persepolis in the Iranian first division last season, has grabbed the attention of local media, who likened his outfits to that of the American animation character SpongeBob, the Daily Mail reports.
The Iranian football federation's morality committee cited Makani's clothing as one of the reasons for handing out the punishment.
It was not clear if Makani's penalty could also be related to a previous controversy in January when he was arrested and taken briefly to Tehran's prison after pictures of him in the presence of a woman not wearing the compulsory hijab were leaked online.
