Ivanishvili nominates Gakharia for Georgian PM post
The ruling Georgian Dream party has nominated Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia for the post of prime minister, the party’s chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili said.
"I presented Gakharia as a candidate for the premiership and received full support both from the political council of the Georgian Dream and the parliamentary majority. I think that parliament will approve Gakharia," Ivanishvili said.
Gakharia, in turn, said that current head of the State Security Service Vakhtang Gomelauri has been nominated to replace Gakharia as Interior Minister, while former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili may take the post of defence minister, RIA Novosti reported.
Outgoing prime minister Mamuka Bakhtadze announced his resignation yesterday after little more than a year in the job.
