Karen Karapetyan visits Armenian Nuclear Power Plant
Armenian prime minister Karen Karapetyan visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant in Metsamor, as part of his trip to Armavir province, the press office of the Armenian government said.
General indicators of the plant’s operation and the measures taken to increase the plant’s security were presented to him.
Karapetyan was told that the first stage of extension of its second unit’s life has successfully been completed.
Only the second unit of the plant is operating now. It generates 30 to 35% of the country’s annual power output, ARKA reported.
In March 2014, the Armenian government decided to extend the plant’s life till 2026 because of delay in construction of a new nuclear unit. The extension of the plant’s life will be paid from a $270-million Russian export loan and a $30-million grant.
