 MSU hosts meeting between Viktor Sadovnichy and Nargiz Pashayeva

On November 23, 2016, the Fundamental Library of MSU hosted a meeting between the rector of Moscow State University, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy and the rector of the Baku branch of MSU, Professor Nargiz Pashayeva.

During the meeting they discussed issues related to the new sixth Physics Department. Professor Nargiz Pashayeva noted that currently there are five laboratories at the Physics Department of the Baku branch of MSU: "Mechanics", "Molecular Physics and Thermodynamics", "Electricity and Magnetism", "Optics" and "Atomic and nuclear physics."

They also discussed issues related to the educational process at all faculties, prospects for the development and expansion of the branch's activities in the coming years, including the establishment of a scientific center, which will cover fundamental research areas in physics, chemistry and mathematics. Such a center would be a good platform for cooperation between scientists of Azerbaijan and Russia in these fields.

Professor Nargiz Pashayeva expressed deep gratitude to Academician Victor Sadovnichy for his support and assistance in the development of the Baku branch, including the opportunity for its graduates to continue their education as postgraduate students at MSU in Moscow.

During the meeting the sides touched upon the branch's communication and cooperation plans with prestigious foreign universities, in particular with the Oxford University. Professor Nargiz Pashayeva spoke about the activities of the Nizami Ganjavi Scientific Center at the Oxford University. It was emphasized that the Nizami Ganjavi Center carries out serious, important long-term research projects related to historical heritage and culture of Azerbaijan, conducts researches, conferences, lectures and discussions, as well as implements the planned training programs at the international academic level.

Nargiz Pashayeva also told Academician Sadovnichy about the British fund, which was recently established in the United Kingdom. She noted that, given the growing professional scientific interest to Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region in the United Kingdom, they have conducted regular consultations with a number of British scientists, public figures and politicians for two years.

Before the meeting, Professor Nargiz Pashayeva and academician Sadovnichy visited the exhibition of paintings by Russian collector Vladislav Malkevich. The collection of paintings includes about 300 paintings and drawings.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Nargiz Pashayeva expressed her gratitude to Academician Viktor Sadovnichy for his warm welcome and full support of the branch's initiatives.
