Mammadyarov: Azerbaijan-Armenia contacts boost Nagorno-Karabakh settlement

Contacts between heads of state and foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia give a positive impetus to move forward in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said, addressing the meeting of foreign ministers of the Eastern Partnership countries in Luxembourg.

"Two meetings I held with my Armenian counterpart (the July meeting in Brussels and the September meeting in New York), the conversation held between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia (on the sidelines of the CIS summit in Tajikistan) gives us a positive impetus to move forward," TASS cited the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's message as saying.

He explained that after the upcoming elections in Armenia, it will become clearer how ready Yerevan is for peace and stability.

Mammadyarov stressed that in the first place Armenia must withdraw its troops from Azerbaijan’s territories. Baku, in turn, the diplomat recalled, is ready for substantive and results-oriented negotiations.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister added that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution is one of the most important issues for the sustainable development of the region.
