Mammadyarov meets with UN Under-Secretary-General
Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with the UN and its specialized and regional structures, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a meeting in Baku with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Shamshad Akhtar.
The Foreign Minister pointed out that the development of the non-oil sector is a priority for the Azerbaijani government. He added that there are good opportunities for cooperation with the member states in the fields of information and communication technologies and multimodal transport infrastructure within the framework of the UN’s Economic and Social Commission.
"The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) projects are very important in this regard and the Commission’s support for these projects will open up vast opportunities for comprehensive regional cooperation," Interfax-Azerbaijan cited Mammadyarov as saying.
Shamshad Akhtar praised Azerbaijan’s model of socio-economic development. He also invited Azerbaijan to join high-level events scheduled to take place this year.
