Maria Zakharova to Vestnik Kavkaza: I hope to see consistent Syria concept from U.S.-led coalition
If the international coalition led by the United States would present a consistent concept on its actions in Syria, it would significantly stabilize the situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at the briefing, answering the question from a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.
She stressed that Russia's position on Syria is consistent and principled: if Washington really intends to withdraw its troops from Syria and if it is implemented, then it will be a positive step. "Because it would mean a return to the legal field, it will help stabilize the situation, help strengthen the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. I recall once again, Damascus did not give consent to the presence of the U.S. contingent on its territory," the diplomat noted.
"Accordingly, if other states follow Washington’s example, but if it is done by Washington, if other countries, the parties that illegally sent their units to Syria, follow this example, Russia’s response will be similar," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
"But I would like to say once again: I still want these endless 'if' to finally crash into the harmonious concept, presented by the U.S.-led coalition. I really want the concept of the coalition's plans on the Syrian direction would be presented to all of us someday," Maria Zakharova concluded.
