Mehriban Aliyeva celebrates her birthday
Today is the birthday of the first lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP of Milli Majlis Mehriban Aliyeva.
Mehriban Aliyeva is known worldwide primarily as a guide and protector of Azerbaijani culture, a philanthropist and educator of youth in the spirit of national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. Back in the mid-90s, yFund of Azerbaijani Culture was established by her, it promotes Azerbaijani music, architecture, painting and practical arts in the world. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation primarily helps children without parents, builds and reconstructs child care centers, she has been heading since its establishment on May 10th 2004.
People know the Foundation and its permanent president Mehriban Aliyeva as participants in the restoration of monuments of world culture. Thanks to their efforts, the historical appearance of monuments on the territory of the Palace of Versailles, stained glass windows of the Strasbourg Cathedral, the 'Hall of the philosophers' in the Capitoline Museums, the Roman catacombs, was restored. This year they signed an agreement with the Vatican on the restoration of the statue of Zeus and the Sistine Hall in the Vatican Museum, as well as manuscripts of the Vatican Apostolic library.
The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation pays a lot of attention to informing the world community about the truth of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Foundation hopublished a collection of booklets called 'Karabakh Realities', and the books 'War and our Historical and Vultural Monuments', 'War against Azerbaijan: Targeting Cultural Heritage'. Actions are held in various countries, photo and video exhibitions about the Khojaly genocide. In September 2013 the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex opened in memory of the tens of thousands of victims of mass killings of Azerbaijanis in 1918.
On January 17th 2013, by decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Mehriban Aliyeva was appointed Chairwoman of the Organising Committee for the conduction of the first European Games in Baku in 2015. Through her work, Baku's European Games were recognized by the European Olympic Committee as the "gold standard" for all following European continental competitions.
