Moscow to host first-ever UFC show in Russia
The first-ever UFC show in Russia is set to happen as early as September, as the event has already been scheduled in one of the biggest arenas in Moscow.
The UFC announced preliminary details of its debut event in the Russian capital, confirming rumors which have been circulating for several months that it will take place on September 15.
The 35,0000-capacity Olimpiyskiy Stadium will host the event, with tickets going on sale to the general public on June 1, RT reported.
The UFC has yet to announce the news, but the possibility of a show in Russia was first raised by the promotion’s president, Dana White, at a press conference following the UFC 205 event at Madison Square Garden, New York, back in November 2016.
"Russia is a key part of UFC’s international expansion strategy," senior vice president, UFC international and content, David Shaw, said in a statement confirming the event. "The demand from our fans to bring a live event to Russia has been overwhelming, and with the vast potential this market holds for us, we knew this was the perfect time to bring UFC Fight Night to Moscow."
