Plastic bags banned in Georgia
Production, import and sale of all types of plastic bags has been banned in Georgia starting today.
According to the new rules, entrepreneurs will be fined GEL 500 ($186) and their goods will be confiscated if they violate the rule. The fine will be doubled in the case of the repeated violation (more than $380).
Plastic bag producers will be supervised by the Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The import of the packages will be monitored by the Customs Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance and the sale by local authorities.
The use and import of plastic packages has been banned in Georgia since October 1, 2018.
