Pompeo urges Putin and Poroshenko to engage directly to resolve Kerch confrontation
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged Ukrainian and Russian presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko to engage directly to resolve their countries' recent confrontation in the Kerch Strait.
"We urge Presidents Poroshenko and Putin to engage directly to resolve this situation," the U.S. Department of State's statement says.
The U.S. Secretary of State also called on both parties to exercise restraint and abide by their international obligations and commitments. In addition, he reiterated their support for the Normandy Four format.
Commenting the Kerch situation, U.S. President Donald Trump said, "not good. Not happy about it at all." "We do not like what's happening either way. And hopefully it will get straightened out," he added.
