Putin and Abbas discuss Middle East settlement
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a telephone conversation to discuss the Middle East settlement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
The Russian leader confirmed Russia's readiness to promote the peace process, including the resumption of negotiations between Palestine and Israel.
"Russia’s readiness to continue taking steps to advance the peace process, including the resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian talks in order to reach mutually acceptable solutions, was confirmed. The Palestinian leader expressed gratitude for the Russian diplomacy's efforts to promote inter-Palestinian reconciliation," the message reads.
The call was initiated by the Palestinian side.
