Rouhani guarantees right of Iranian ethnic groups for mother tongue education
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani emphasized the right of Iranian ethnic groups for mother tongue education.
Addressing a gathering of people in the northwestern city of Mahabad, Rouhani said that all Iranian ethnic groups should be able to teach their mother tongue, Trend reports.
He further said that the administration is "negotiating" with the education ministry for implementation of the article 15 of Iran's constitution, which says that the "official language (of Iran)... is Persian...the use of regional and tribal languages in the press and mass media, as well as for teaching their literature at schools, is allowed in addition to Persian."
Rouhani reminded that centers were established in Tabriz and Ardabil cities (Capital city of Iran's East Azerbaijan and Ardabil provinces) as well as Kurdistan province, in this regard.
