Russia ready for nuclear arms cuts, but...
The Kremlin disputed a statement by outgoing US President Barack Obama on nuclear arms cuts, saying Russia had always been ready to consider making proportional cuts to its arsenal, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"The Russian side always favored a proportional and fair process of nuclear disarmament," Peskov told reporters on a conference call. "It can't be disproportional, it should not lead to a breach of nuclear parity, which is critical to ensuring global stability and security."
Obama said overnight he had told the Russian President Vladimir Putin he was ready to proceed with nuclear disarmament, but that Russia didn't want to negotiate, Reuters reports.
