Tillerson: Iran exports terror and violence to Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson accused Iran of 'alarming ongoing provocations' to destabilize countries in the Middle East.
"An unchecked Iran has the potential to travel the same path as North Korea and take the world along with it," Tillerson said, later adding that the current nuclear agreement "only delays their goal of becoming a nuclear state."
Tillerson also noted that "Iranian naval vessels continue to undermine freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf by harassing US naval vessels".
According to US Secretary of State, Iran "exports terror and violence, destabilizing more than one country at a time",
He said that Tehran is the "world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and is responsible for intensifying multiple conflicts and undermining US interests in countries such as Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon, and continuing to support attacks against Israel".
According to him, Iran continues to support the brutal Assad regime in Syria, prolonging a conflict that has killed approximately half a million Syrians and displaced millions more.
Tillerson noted that Washington "has no intention of passing the buck to a future administration on Iran".
