US working to convince Turkey not to buy Russia's S-400 systems
Head of US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Army Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, said that the US is working to convince Turkey not to buy Russia's S-400 air and missile defence systems.
According to the general, there is still “some time” to convince Turkey there is a “better system” available, Air Force magazine reported.
“We’re in close discussion with Turkey with respect to their air defense measures and systems they could deploy,” he told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday. “I don’t think that’s a finished deal yet.”
"I think that they’re talking to us as well as others to purchase a system that’s interoperable in NATO... and my intent is to continue to work that aspect to convince them that the better system is, in fact, one of the NATO interoperable systems," Scaparrotti stressed.
