Zarif discuss Syria with Russian, Iraqi, Syrian counterparts
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the latest regional developments in northern Syria in separate telephone talks with the Russian, Iraqi and Syrian foreign ministers, Sergei Lavrov, Walid Muallem and Mohamed Ali Alhakim yesterday evening.
According to Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Media Head Office, the talks with the officials of the other countries will continue, IRNA reported.
On October 9, Ankara announced the launch of Operation Peace Spring in northern Syria, which began with airstrikes on Kurdish positions. The operation’s goal is to create a buffer zone along the Turkish border, where, according to Ankara, Syrian refugees residing in Turkey could return.
