The 70th anniversary of Muslim Magomaev's birth is celebrated in Baku

Today in the capital of Azerbaijan in the Alley of Honour a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the outstanding singer and composer, People's Artist of the USSR Muslim Magomaev, was held, Trend reports. The ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the birth of Muslim Magomaev was attended by the widow of the artist, People's Artist of USSR, soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, Professor of GITIS, Tamara Sinyavskaya, a family friend Aras Agalarov, a famous singer and composer Emin Agalarov, People's Painter of the USSR Tahir Salahov, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin, People's Artists of the USSR Fidan and Khuraman Gasimov and famous cultural and public figures.

"Today in Moscow we can hear the songs of Muslim Magomaev, and there are TV programs dedicated to his anniversary. I am a deep admirer of the talents of Muslim Magomaev, and am happy about the respect and honour to the heritage of the great singer and composer in our country,” Vladimir Dorokhin, the Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, said in his opening words. “It is impossible to estimate the talent of Muslim Magomaev, and we can proudly say that we lived in the era of a great musician, whose work was included in the treasury of world art. All his work was an organic bridge between Russia and Azerbaijan and symbolized the unity of our spiritual values."

Tamara Sinyavskaya expressed appreciation to everyone who came and paid tribute to Muslim Magomaev.

"Both with his family and on the stage, Muslim was always a great, humble and decent man. He always tried to help young talent, and never judged anyone," Sinyavskaya told reporters.

 According to Emin Agalarov, the greatness of Muslim Magomaev was primarily in his personal qualities.

 "Muslim Magometovich was an amazingly well-mannered and honourable man; this is reflected in his music and stage image. There cannot be any star brighter than Magomayev. True art lives forever and increasingly takes on power and energy, and this applies to the work of Muslim Magomaev, whom we admire and will always admire. The same can be said about the greatness of his personality, which we are all proud of. Magomayev is only one, and nobody can be his peer, Emin Agalarov told reporters.

Muslim Magomaev was born in Baku and studied at the Baku Conservatory. Muslim was a full namesake of his famous grandfather, the composer, after whom the Baku Philharmonic is named. Fame came to Magomayev after performing in the Kremlin Palace of Congresses in 1962. His first solo concert was held at the Tchaikovsky Hall. In 1963 he became a soloist of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater. The singer trained in "La Scala". In the 1960s, he performed in the major cities of the Soviet Union. His tour in Paris was a great success. When he was 31 years old, he received the title of People's Artist of the USSR. Huge circulations of discs with his songs came out. The repertoire of the Maestro includes more than 600 works. Magomaev is author of more than 20 songs, music for movies, and the author and host of a television series about the life and work of Mario Lanza. Artist wrote a book about this singer. Magomaev starred in such films as "Nizami", "Muslim Magomaev sings" and "Moscow in Notes." One of the minor planets in the solar system is named after him. Muslim Magomaev died on October 25, 2008, in the 67th year of his life. He was buried in the Alley of Honour in Baku.
