Duma ratifies Russian-Turkish agreement on nuclear energy


The State Duma on Friday ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation in the field of nucelar energy for peaceful purposes,  RIA Novost reports. The agreement was signed in Ankara on 6 August 2009 and aims to update the legal framework of cooperation of Russia and Turkey in this field.

The document contains a detailed list of directions and forms of cooperation. This, in particular, includes the research and development, control of thermonuclear fusion, design, construction, operation and decommissioning of power and research reactors, the supply of nuclear materials, nuclear fuel cycle services, exploration and development of uranium mines, nuclear safety, radiation protection andenvironmental protection.
