Russian Youth Public Chamber meets Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan in Baku
A delegation of the Russian Youth Public Chamber is on a visit to
Baku, where it met the Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vladimir
Dorokhin, ANS reports.
The diplomat noted that Azerbaijan is an independent player on the
energy market, it exports large quantities of oil abroad.
The ambassador noted the importance of mutual understanding in
determining the status of the Caspian Sea. He reminded the delegation
about the military-strategic interests of Russia and Azerbaijan and
Russia’s renting of the Gabali radar facility.
Dorokhin talked about culture as well. He said that part of the
country was brought up based on Russian culture and the other part
based on Azerbaijani culture. But the traditions were not forgotten.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat said that
Gorbachev had made a big mistake by underestimating the conflict and
taking wrong measures.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have had a ceasefire agreement since 1994 and
peace negotiations continue. 15 years of efforts by mediators have
been fruitless. Russia’s political efforts are aimed at a peaceful
settlement of the conflict, Dorokhin said.
