Ehud Barak initiates evacuation of Jewish settlements from the West Bank
The Defense Minister of Israel Ehud Barak proposed the evacuation of dozens of Jewish settlements from the West Bank of the Jordan River, even if talks with Palestine remain deadlocked. He is sure that such a step will promote relations between Israel and its neighbors in the region, Europe, and the US.
The critics of the minister who heads a small and unpopular left party Atsmaut see the election background in his statement, RIA Novosti reports.
Barak has already stated for turning to one-sided steps, but now he presented a detailed initiative proposing destruction of dozens of small settlements without touching upon major settlement blocks where 90% of Israel citizens of the West Bank live.
