Kazakhstan backs Crimea and Russia

Kazakhstan emphasizes commitment to fundamental principles of the UN Charter in the light of the March 16 referendum of Crimea, Trend reports.

Kazakhstan recognizes the referendum as declaration of will of the Crimean population and understands the position of Russia in the issue, says the Foreign Ministry. Kazakhstan encourages peaceful solutions of crisis in Ukraine and negotiations under the auspices of the UN and other authoritative organizations, according to the ministry.

Kazakh political analyst Eduard Poletayev said that Kazakhstan was not supporting the referendum and was in fact realizing its foreign policy independently. The expert reminded that Kazakhstan was committed to the international law and the UN Charter. He added that Kazakhstan was not really expressing support, it was simply giving its outlook on the events.
