New temperature record in Azerbaijan

The extremely cold weather has recently caused problems in all Azerbaijani regions. They include gas and water problems.

Temperature in Shirvan dropped to -6 C, mountain villages to -10 C. Gas pressure dripped in Balakyan District. No problems with electricity were registered.

The temperature in Lerik dropped to -4, in Yardymly to -6. No problems with gas and electric supply. Temperature in Mil-Mugansk Region dropped to -5, -9.

Heavy winds were registered in Gajigabul, Sabirabad, Saatly, Imishli, Salyan and Neftchal. No power problems were seen in Saatly, Sabirabad, Imishli, some villages had power cuts. Gas pressure dropped.

Minimal air temperature dropped to -11 in Baku at 6-7 am. It is the record of 110 years. The previous record of -10 was set in 1969.

Bad weather conditions caused delays at the Baku International Airport of Heydar Aliyev, Magerram Safarli, head of the press service of Azerbaijani Airlines, said.

A plane flying from Kazan to Baku (Airlines of Tatarstan) had to land in Makhachkala. Bad weather conditions in Azerbaijan forced the London plane heading to Baku land in Tehran. Flights were cancelled from Tbilisi, Tehran, Gyanzh and Nakhchivan.

J2 6717 from Baku to Mineralniye Vody (Russia), J2 257 to Nakhchivan, J2 239 to Gyanzh, J2 223 to Tbilisi and J2 017 to Tehran were cancelled today.

Water supply of the capital increase from 12.5 cubic meters per second to 13.8. Over 600,000 cubic meters of water are stored in reservoirs.

Azeriqaz, a production enterprise of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) increased gas supply, its press secretary Kamandar Eyvazov said. 26 million cubic meters of gas are provided daily, 15.3 million of them are for the capital, the rest for regions.

Telephone stations of Mardakyan and Buzovna are using generators.

Azerbaijani Transport Minister Namig Gasanov said that about 700 buses started work this morning, half of them got stuck. 16 international buses with 280 passengers were on their way by 10 am.

Public transport will operate until 8 pm or less. Normally, 3000 buses work in Baku.

Baku and Absheron Peninsula expect short snowing with low north-western wind. Day temperature will reach 0-3, night -8-13 on February 9. Temperature in Aran will drop to -6-11 at night, 0-5 during the day. Mountain temperature will drop to -19-24 at night, -17-22 at day.

All middle schools and nurseries in Azerbaijan's Zagatala District have been temporarily closed today, Trend cites Elman Ramazanov, Deputy Chief Executive of the district and Chairman of the Commission for Emergencies, as saying.The Education Ministry approved the initiative, he says. Earthquakes cause more damage to education centers every day. 47 out of 61 schools, two sports halls and 28 pre-schools are in bad condition.

Baku offers accommodation at boats for Eurovision guests

Baku offers three boatss for guests arriving for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, Trend cites Nahid Bagirov, head of the Tourism Association of Azerbaijan, as saying.The boats will be located at the Baku Bay in the National Coastal Park. Each can hold up to 100 people.Accomodation at hotels continues, Bagirov notes. About 5,000 people have been granted rooms.Official delegations of singers started to Gobustan, Absheron, Shamakha and Qabala on May 13. They were provided with enough guides.

Second earthquake hits Azerbaijan

The second earthquake has happened in the Zagatala region of Azerbaijan today. It happened 3.4 km south-east of Zagatala at 9.54 am, Trend reports.The earthquake center had a magnitude of 5 points, nearby villages experienced 3-4 points.

 An earthquake with a magnitude of 3 points has happened at the Zagatalsky District of Azerbaijan at 5.30 am this morning, Trend reports.An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 points happened at the district on May 7. The same day, 8 more earthquakes were registered. About 3,000 buildings, 124 social facilities were damaged. No people were killed or injured in the earthquake. 

Earthquake strikes Azerbaijan’s Lankaran District

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4 points has ripped through the Lankaran District of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.The earthquake center was 15 km west of Lankaran. Nearby areas experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5. No damage or injuries have been registered.

Earthquake at Azerbaijan’s Zagatalsky District

An earthquake has happened at the Zagatalsky District of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.The earthquake happened 14 km south of the Zagatalsky District with a magnitude of 3.3 points. Its center was 10 km deep.
