Foreign legion to appear in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree regulating contract service for foreigners in the Russian Armed Forces
. According to this document, "those members of military personnel who are foreign nationals, participating in carrying out tasks under a military regime, as well as in case of armed conflict in accordance with the universally-recognized principles and norms of international law, the international treaties of the Russian Federation and legislation of the Russian Federation." The contract cannot be signed with a foreign national under examination or indictment, or with an outstanding conviction, or serving a sentence in prison. A foreigner has to have a good command of the Russian language before being admitted. The first contract is signed for 5 years of service.
