New Wave Contest to be held at Olympic Park in Sochi
Composer Igor Krutoy, a co-organizer of the New Wave Music Contest, said that the contest will be held at the Olympic Park in Sochi this year. The stage will be placed where athletes were awarded Olympic medals, Mixnews reports.
Russian Minister for Culture Vladimir Medinsky approved the move of the contest from Jurmala (Latvia) to Sochi.
The Latvian Foreign Ministry said in July 2014 that holding the New Wave Contest in Jurmala was inappropriate. Latvian authorities said organizers of the contest were aggressively supporting annexation of Crimea and condemning Kiev.
Saint-Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Sochi and Yalta were bidding to host the contest.
