Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government to establish direct ferry and railway connection with Crimea by the end of the month. State fees for the Kerch Ferry will be said on the same date, RIA Novosti reports.The Russian Transportation Ministry and the Russian Railways have two weeks to accomplish the task. The Federal Tariff Service, the Transportation Ministry, the Ministry for Economic Development and the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service were given two weeks to adjust the fees for ferry service.

Dagestan signs agreement with Russian Railways

On December 6th, the head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, and the head of the Directorate of Railway Stations of a branch of Russian Railways, Sergey Obramov, signed an agreement for the reconstruction of railway stations in the country. The project also provides the building of commuting hubs at the railway stations and reconstruction of areas located near railway stations. It is expected that the construction will feature innovative technologies to provide maximum comfort to travellers. Particular attention will be paid to passengers with disabilities. The project will be co-funded.

Russian Railways launches audio programs in trains

The Russian Railways has launched audio programs in 200 routes within the framework of the joint project of the Russian Orthodox Church and Radio Rossii, as stated by Lyudmila Borzyak, producer of the World.Man.Word project, the Russian News Service reports.The routes include Moscow-Vladivostok, Omsk, Siberia, Kaliningrad. The audio programs include texts of famous Russian theologians, historians and publicists.

Double-decker passenger coaches depot opens in Minvody

Russia's first passenger train depot, designed to service the new double-decker coaches for trains, has opened in Mineralnye Vody today.The ceremony was attended by the President of "Russian Railways" Vladimir Yakunin, the Vice-Governor - Chairman of the Government of Stavropol Ivan Kovalev, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Mikhail Afanasiev and other officials.

A hoax email which for 30 minutes had Russians believing one of President Vladimir Putin's oldest allies had lost his job has deepened suspicions that a battle between business and political groups over money and power is intensifying, Reuters reports. The email sent to media late on Wednesday purported to be a government statement announcing Vladimir Yakunin's removal as head of state-owned Russian Railways, at his own request. It was later denounced as a fake by the government and Yakunin, an old friend of Putin.

Sochi replaces Aeroexpress with Latochka train

 Sochi has been using Lastochka trains to transport passengers from the train station and Adler station to the airport since May 1.Lastochka will replace the Aeroexpress trains. The remaining Aeroexpress trains will continue working according to the deal with the Russian Railways.

 Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met chairman of the board of directors of the South Caucasus Railway Vladimir Yakunin yesterday and pointed out strengthening of cooperation with Russia.Sargsyan discussed cooperation with the Russian Railways Company, manager of the Armenian railways.Yakunin presented a report on modernization of Armenian railways and reminded about a facility opened in Gyumri to repair carriages and store trains.
