5 dead as oil rig helicopter crashes off Iran coast
A helicopter belonging to the National Iranian Oil Company, flying from an offshore oil rig, has plunged into the Caspian Sea, killing all those on board. Rescue workers have pulled the bodies of all five victims from the water, Press TV reports.
In the early hours of Sunday, the helicopter was dispatched to the Amir Kabir semi-submersible oil rig to transfer one of the employees who had suffered a cardiac arrest. The chopper was on its way back from the oil rig when it crashed, off the coast of the city of Behshahr, in the east of Mazandaran province.
The helicopter was carrying the patient, a health worker as well as three crew members. The blackbox has not been yet recovered from the crash site. An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.
