ADB helps Armenia protect schools from earthquakes

The Asian Development Bank will provide Armenia with a loan of $89.3 million for the construction of schools in the country that can withstand earthquakes, as well as develop the capacity to tackle natural disasters.

"After the devastating Spitak earthquake in 1988 the Armenian authorities took many steps aimed at developing the management system, responding to emergency situations, as well as improving earthquake-resistant constructions. This project will support the current efforts of the government for the construction and rebuilding of earthquake-resistant schools, as well as promotion of opportunities of seismic risk control and other initiatives,’’ cites the press service of the bank.
