Bakhtadze: Gakharia and Georgia's Interior Ministry should be thanked
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze thanked the Interior Ministry for preventing attempts to seize the power on June 20-21 in Tbilisi.
The PM recalled two cases in the history of Georgia of overthrowing the government through storming the country’s parliament, and in both cases the developments led to bloodshed, confrontations and civil war - in 1991 and 2003.
"I want to thank our Interior Ministry that they managed to avoid such consequences," Agenda.ge cited him as saying.
Bakhtadze stressed that there are no officials in the Georgian Dream government who will stay in power if they are found to be culpable for the events that transpired, including Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia.
The rally following the developments in parliament on June 20 was dispersed by police after a part of the demonstrators decided to storm the parliament building, leaving 305 detained and 240 injured.
