Currency exchange offices close in Almaty
Almaty's currency exchange offices have been closed due to a drop in the rate of the tenge by more than 20%, the local publication Tengrinews reports.
Throughout the city, correspondents of the publication could find only one working bureau de change, near which agiotage was observed. People were standing in line, trying to exchange tenges. Almaty residents are buying rubles due to the lack of dollars and euros, TASS reports.
People say they wanted to buy dollars at the old rate, but the US dollar is nowhere to be found. Many people regret that they did not exchange money yesterday, when the dollar was being sold for 195-197 tenge, the publication notes.
