Deadline for Russia's victory over coronavirus announced
Russia may defeat coronavirus by the summer of 2021, said Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Institute of the Russian Ministry of Health.
By that time, it will be possible to vaccinate the majority of the population of the Russian Federation, he noted.
Given the available capacity, 80 million doses of vaccine can be produced in twelve months. "And we will get a good percentage of protected people in our country," he said in an interview with Izvestia, specifying that this "will create protective population immunity."
This "will stop" the epidemic process, that is, "the uncontrolled spread of infection among the population," he explained.
When asked if this means that the coronavirus can be defeated by the summer of 2021, the director of the Gamaleya Institute replied that he hoped so, "if everything goes according to plan."
