Erdogan intends to discuss Syria with Putin at BRICS summit
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will discuss developments in Syria with Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his trip to South Africa for the BRICS summit.
"Developments in Syria, whether in Tal Rifaat or Manbij, are not going as desired," Erdogan said, speaking at a news conference in Ankara prior to his visit to Johannesburg. "The only places [in Syria] that are going in the desired direction are Afrin, Jarablus and al-Bab," he added.
The president said events in Idlib, held by Syrian rebels, and Daraa, currently under a heavy offensive by the Syrian regime, will also be addressed during his meeting with Putin. "Anything can happen in these places at any time," Hurriyet Daily cited Erdogan as saying.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Turkish president is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of all BRICS member states and other invited leaders.
