Five killed, several seriously injured in Istanbul bus crash
Five people died and several were seriously injured in a bus crash in Istanbul early on Sunday, Cumhuriyet said, Ahval reports.
"The accident occurred at approximately 06.40 a.m. According to the initial findings, we have 26 injuries, 10 of them serious. Five of our citizens lost their lives. One of them was the driver,” Cumhuriyet cited Eyüpsultan District Governor İhsan Kara as saying.
A written statement by the Governorship of Istanbul said that the passenger bus was traveling from Karabük to Istanbul, and it came off the road and hit the barriers at Çiftalan Bridge on the Northern Marmara Motorway. The bus operator is Metro Turizm.
The injured people have been taken to various hospitals. Kara said that three of the injured passengers are children. He said that the bus was the only vehicle involved in the crash and investigations at the scene are ongoing.
