Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijani territories liberated during April battles give full control of situation on contact line
Azerbaijani territories liberated during the April battles allow Baku full to take control of the situation on the contact line, Azerbaijan’s President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with a group of servicemen on the anniversary of the April clashes.
"Today, the Azerbaijani flag is waving in the liberated territories of Fuzuli, Jabrayil and Aghdara districts, and these territories were retaken during the April battles. These battles showed that the Azerbaijani people and state will never reconcile with the occupation and will restore their territorial integrity at any cost," AzerTAc cited the President of Azerbaijan as saying.
Ilham Aliyev stressed that the April battles showed the professionalism of Azerbaijan army. "By conducting a counter-attack from the unfavorable positions our armed forces took the strategic positions. Today, these strategic heights and positions, and the liberated territories allow us to take full control of the situation on the contact line and take any measures we want," he pointed out.
President added that the April battles must be included in military textbooks. "In terms of both professionalism and patriotism, the April battles once again showed the heroism of the Azerbaijani people. They once again showed that we will not reconcile with this situation, that unity of the people and the government has been excellently ensured and is strengthening in Azerbaijan," the Supreme Commander-in-Chief said.
Ilham Aliyev recalled the events of the early 1990s, when Armenia has long spread myths about its army, claiming that their powerful army has gained a major victory.
"In that period, chaos and anarchy were prevailing in Azerbaijan, and there was a fierce struggle for power. In 1992, the alliance between the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party and Musavat made a coup attempt. So we began losing our lands," Ilham Aliyev said.
He noted that following the occupation of Shusha, Lachin in 1992, Kalbajar 1993, a geographical link was established between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, that’s when Azerbaijan lost its strategic positions. "This was treason against state and people of Azerbaijan. Armenia and its backers took the advantage and occupied Azerbaijani lands thanks to foreign support and intervention. That’s part of our history and we know this. The younger generation must know it too,” he added.
"Armenia’s leadership had been spreading myths. However, these myths were shattered by the April battles. It showed that Azerbaijan is the only country in the region with a powerful army. These battles showed that Armenia will be unable to continue the occupation of Azerbaijani lands. They had to admit this themselves," the President concluded.
