Ilham Aliyev: Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan changed drastically after Putin came to power
Relations between Azerbaijan and Russia changed drastically after Vladimir Putin became Russia President, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in an interview to journalist Andrey Kondrashov in a new documentary film titled "Putin".
According to him, he still remembers the first meeting between national leader and then Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and head of Russia.
Ilham Aliyev said that their meeting lasted for a really long time, and after it ended "my father talked about his impression of Russian President for a long time."
"Of course, they had a lot in common: they were trained in the same school - Leningrad KGB School, they were colleagues, who understood each other really well and built relations based on trust," Azerbaijani President said.
He noted that according to his father Heydar Aliyev, "Azerbaijan got a reliable partner when Putin came to power."
