Ilham Aliyev on Khojaly genocide: we should strive to avoid such tragedies in history of mankind in future
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who took part in the nationwide march in Baku today to commemorate the 27th anniversary of Khojaly genocide, was interviewed by Rossiya-24 TV channel`s correspondent.
The head of state thanked the Russian TV correspondent for coning and expressing attitude to this tragic date in the history of the Azerbaijani people.
"This is the unhealing pain of our people, the genocide committed against our people, the greatest crime of the last century. Innocent people — the elderly, women, children — died because they belonged to the Azerbaijani nation," Ilham Aliyev said.
"The Azerbaijani people will never forget this tragedy, will always remember it. It will live forever in our memory," he stressed.
"The most important thing is to ensure that such tragedies should never repeated, that monstrous acts of genocide or extermination on a national basis against any nation should never committed. The Azerbaijani state and people sacredly keep the memory of the dead, mourn for them, their memory is sacred for us. All those who escaped on that tragic night will forever remain for us people who survived the most terrible tragedy, who suffered physical injuries and moral trauma," Ilham Aliyev noted.
"We do everything to relieve the plight of these people. The state helps them and will continue to do it. I want to say once again that everyone should strive to avoid such tragedies in the history of mankind," the President of Azerbaijan concluded.
