Interpol stops searching for Data Akhalaia
The Interpol National Central Bureau has stopped the international search for the former head of the Constitutional Safety Department of Georgia, Data Akhalaia, the former defense minister Bacho Akhalaya's wife, Anna Nadareishvili, said.
"Interpol has stopped searching for Data Akhalaia, stating that political persecution is under way against him," Georgia Online cited her as saying.
Earlier, Tbilisi City Court declared Data Akhalaia guilty of abuse of power, he was sentenced to imprisonment. Akhalaia was detained in Greece. Tbilisi is demanding his extradition, but the Greek side was not satisfied with the evidence and Akhalaia has been acquitted.
