Iran coronavirus death toll increases
Four more people have died of novel coronavirus in Iran, spokesman for parliament Assadollah Abbassi said, bringing the country's overall death toll to 12.
"The minister of health announced the deaths of 12 people and 47 cases of infection in the country," ISNA cited him as saying.
At the same time, the country’s deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi said that 12 people had died from the coronavirus and 66 had been infected.
Iran has been scrambling to contain the COVID-19 outbreak since it announced the first two deaths in Qom on Wednesday last week. Authorities have since ordered the closure of schools, universities and other educational centres across the country as a "preventive measure".
According to the latest reports, China has confirmed over 77,000 cases of patients infected with the novel coronavirus. The virus’ death toll has hit 2,592, yet more than 24,700 patients have recovered from the disease.
