Iran may increase production of gold

Iran is studying the possibility of increasing gold production, the deputy director of Iran’s Geology and Mineral Exploration Organization, Behrooz Borna, said.

"Proven and probable gold reserves across the country have reached 340 metric tons and it is expected that following the completion of exploration projects, Iran’s gold output will hit 10 metric tons a year," he said.

Iran’s current gold output is 3 metric tons per year. Borna pointed out that recent explorations in the central province of Isfahan have led to the identification of gold-rich areas.
He said that based on statistics there are 24 gold mines in the country, but only 15 are active. 8 mines are still non-operational because of low gold prices on the global market, Trend reports.
